The Barking Dog is literally a neighborhood bar, located just a nine-minute drive away from our apartments. It also has the comfortable, friendly ambiance that traditionally marks a neighborhood bar. The owners modeled The Barking Dog after the vision of a bar and restaurant that they would like to visit. They participate in the community by contributing to charities and worthy institutions such as Whitman High School, Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue 1 and American Cancer Society.

The menu features quality bar food spiced with a dash of local flavor. Start off with Maryland crab dip and soft pretzels or homemade potato chips topped with ranch dressing and Old Bay seasoning. Choose a juicy burger made from Angus beef or go with the healthy black bean veggie or ground turkey options. Chicken, beef and pork are smoked in-house for their delicious sliders and BBQ plates.

Dig into one of more than a dozen varieties of hot dogs, sandwiches and wraps. The authentic Chicago-style dog is topped with relish, onions, ketchup, mustard, peppers, tomatoes and garlic salt. Fish lovers will enjoy the blackened mahi and beer-battered haddock sandwiches. Supreme cheese steak is a kicked-up version of the classic with green peppers, mushrooms and provolone cheese.

Beverages include an extensive list of craft cocktails along with nearly three dozen types of beer on tap or in bottles or cans. Happy Hour drink and food specials are available weekdays from 4 pm – 8 pm.

Every night is a party at The Barking Dog. Special events include Industry, Salsa, League and Karaoke Nights. Hit the upstairs dance floor on Friday and Saturday evenings and catch all the top football games on NFL Sunday Ticket. Other activities include kickball and cornhole leagues.

Find The Barking Dog at 4723 Elm Street. Hours are 11 am – 2 am every day except Friday and Saturday when the bar closes at 3 am.
